About Care for Women Ministry

Care for Women Ministry (CWM) is a missionary non-profit organization based in Northern Ghana, dedicated to supporting vulnerable women living in “witch camps.” These camps are places where women, often elderly, are sent after being accused of witchcraft, a harmful belief that still persists in many communities of Northern Ghana. Once accused, these women are rejected by their families and cast out of society. Seen as dangerous or cursed, they are left without support, income, or access to basic necessities.

Most of the women in these camps are unable to work due to age and declining health. They face severe food insecurity, lack medical care, and are at constant risk of exploitation.

CWM exists to bring the love and hope of Jesus Christ to these women by addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Through regular visits, counseling, acts of compassion, and genuine friendship, we strive to restore their dignity, rebuild their hope, and improve their overall quality of life.

Isaiah 61:1–3 (NIV) The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”

Meet Rev. Sarah Yamusah Azeka

My name is Rev. Sarah Yamusah Azeka, an ordained minister with the Ghana Baptist Convention. I hold a Master’s degree in Evangelical Theology from Tyndale Theological Seminary in the Netherlands.

I come from Northern Ghana, where I grew up witnessing the harsh treatment of elderly women accused of witchcraft. Some were violently attacked, even beaten or stoned to death while others, considered the “fortunate” ones, were ex-communicated to isolated settlements known as “witch camps.” This heartbreaking reality continues to this day.

Their suffering deeply impacted me, especially as I grew in my understanding of God’s love, Jesus’ mission to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10), and His compassion for the outcasts. I began to question how we, as followers of Christ, could show His love to these marginalized women and give them hope.

These reflections led me to write my Master’s thesis on how the Church can support the women in witch camps. After completing my studies, I founded Care for Women Ministry (CWM) to bring my research to life and respond to this need with love, dignity, and action.

Restoring Dignity. Sharing Christ’s Love

Why We Exist

Once accused, these women face rejection, isolation, and poverty. Many are left with no income, no access to healthcare, and little to no support. Their basic needs go unmet, and they are at constant risk of exploitation and abuse.

CWM was born out of a passion to see these women experience the love, hope, and dignity that Jesus Christ offers.

What We Do

We meet women right where they are, offering:

  1. Physical Support: Food assistance, basic healthcare access, and personal needs.
  2. Emotional Care: Listening, counseling, and restoring hope through friendship and presence.
  3. Spiritual Ministry: Sharing the Gospel, praying with them, and reminding them they are loved and never forgotten by God.

Through regular visits, intentional relationships, and community outreach, CWM exists to shine Christ’s light in the darkest corners.
